Dr. Laurel Gropper has been a primary care optometrist for 29 years. She received her doctorate from the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry in 1982, and the following year, pursued additional training in the treatment and management of ocular diseaseand injury at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She gained first-rate experience in ocular disease management during her 10 years in joint practice with Comprehensive Ophthalmologists (Dr. Markoff, Dr. Levine, and Dr.Blecher) as well as with the teaching faculty at Wills Eye Hospital. Her love of nature and a desire to practice with outstanding professional colleagues motivated she and her husband, Carl, to relocate to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In 1993, they purchased Chapel Hill Eyecare.

Currently, Dr. Gropper's multi-specialty private optometric practice places emphasis on listening to and meeting the visual and medical needs of patients ranging in age from infants to geriatric. This includes routine treatment for refractive problems, binocularity concerns, specialty contact lenses, and ocular disease including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration and chronic dry eye. She is equally open to the integration of complementary medicine into the treatment regimen when it falls within the scope of optometric practice. She is pleased with the co-management among local specialty ophthalmologists and primary care physicians for patients' ocular surgical needs.

When Dr. Gropper is not working at the office, she enjoys yoga, dance, gardening, kite surfing, piano, and loves to laugh and find balance in life.
